I’m genuinely surprised NATO hasn’t done anything. Technically, if Russia sends police ( troops) , I believe they have to respond.

No, America won’t do it on their own, but I believe the whole purpose of the NATO treaty, is “you attack one, you attack all”. Its a deterrence , like mutually assured destruction

No, I wouldn’t expect America to go in on their own. As you say, it’s supposed to be a group effort. Trump has done more to undermine NATO than Putin could have hoped for in his wildest dreams, which might be one more argument that Trump is under Russian influence. Still, Russia invaded Crimea and annexed it (during the Obama administration) , and continues to support rebels in Ukraine, and NATO has done basically nothing.

NATO has no obligation to respond to troops being sent into a non NATO country, especially a non NATO country that has been ruled by a dictator for the last couple decades.
